VICKERS AVIATION PRODUCTS
Vickers formed their Aviation Department in 1911.In 1928 the Aviation Department became Vickers (Aviation) Ltd and soon after acquired Supermarine Aviation Works, which became the Supermarine Aviation Works (Vickers) Ltd and was responsible for producing the revolutionary Spitfire fighter.
1960 The aircraft interests were merged with those of Bristol, the English Electric Co and Hunting to form the British Aircraft Corporation.(BAC). In 1965 The Vickers brand name for aircraft was dropped by BAC. In 1977 BAC was nationalised to become part of British Aerospace (BAe).
In 1929 Vickers manufactured a range of products such as valves, fasteners, streamline wires and oil coolers that were generally incorporated across aircraft designs from all manufacturers. The 1929 product catalogue describes these as well as reproducing a number of British Engineering Standards (BESA) for fasteners, fork joints, streamline wires commonly used in interwar aircraft designs.
